Florida Highway Patrol Colonel B. Harrison Fired After Contempt of Court Arrest
By Jason Carter – Fox News Miami
Miami, FL — Florida Highway Patrol Colonel B. Harrison has been officially terminated from his position, following his recent arrest for contempt of court during a hearing before Chief Judge Dan Miller.
The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles confirmed Tuesday that Harrison was relieved of duty effective immediately after an internal review. His dismissal comes after he mocked courtroom proceedings during a warrant request, leading Judge Miller to rule him in direct contempt. Harrison was sentenced to 72 hours in county jail and fined $500.
In a statement to Fox News, Harrison said: “I extend my apologies to Judge Miller; however, I intend to appeal this matter to a higher court and pursue legal action against the Department of Justice.”
Following Harrison’s removal, Lt. Colonel M. Heemeyer has been serving as Acting Colonel to oversee agency operations during the leadership transition. On Thursday, the 28th, state officials plan to promote Lieutenant Colonel Luca Alvarez to Colonel of the Florida Highway Patrol. Alvarez, a 15-year veteran of the patrol, has been serving as second-in-command and will assume full leadership as the agency’s highest-ranking officer.
Officials with the Department said Alvarez’s upcoming appointment is intended to provide stability and restore public trust in the Patrol following Harrison’s removal.
This incident marks one of the most severe disciplinary actions ever taken against a senior leader within the Florida Highway Patrol.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
